I'm still in northern Italy. The small picturesque city I'm staying in right
now is called Verona. The ancient city has many interesting attractions,
including an arena, built in about 1 AC, and several fine architectural
masterpieces. However, the city is famous mostly for its eternal young
lovers: Romeo and Juliet. Juliet's house is located in a now very crowded
street, filled up with teeming and almost endless tourists. Juliet's bronze
statute is in the front yard, some very old oil paintings, believed to
belong to her family, are still in the rooms upstairs.
Attached is a picture taken from outside her house. What amazes me is the
millions of notes posted and writings scribbled on the wall, starting from
the very entrance arch gate, through the long passage walk way, to the front fade of the house. The notes and writings are in different languages, including Chinese. Literally every square nano-meter is covered with letters or characters--so dense that it would take a savvy builder to spot some space to write to. While the local people--as well as many others--take pride in this overwhelming way of display of love by people from all over the world, I am concerned that the vandalism--that's what appears to me at least--may generate a greater tragedy to the Italian cultural heritage than the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet four centuries ago. Fortunately, the balcony, where the first kiss of the young lovers took place, is too high to be contaminated by the later generations. That small protruding structure, the totem of love, immortalized in the great Shakespeare's play, will still be there to be awed by millions for generations to come.

Attached is a photo recently taken somewhere in Milan, Italy. Give yourself
five minutes to carefully study the picture, then proceed to answer the
following questions based on what you have seen in the picture.
a) Where was the picture mostly likely taken?
b) What does the posted sign actually say?
You have 72 hours to tackle this highly challenging question. Please submit
your best guesstimate to me in confidence. No dictionary of any kind is
allowed. The quiz tests your intuition, creativity, and sense of humor. The
winner will be awarded the entire collection album (Special Edition) of my
Italy trip photos, professionally taken and digitally mastered.
The correct answer will be posted later along with the name of the winner
(if any).
Happy playing!
