More seriously though, I was fascinated by the sense of excitement and optimism (notwithstanding the apprehension of many as 1997 approached) but felt that it was a desperately lonely experience for many (particularly foreigners) who then attempted to compensate for that by desperately seeking enjoyment & connectedness....
