It's different. You got free university education. You are not elite, but you consumed the precious resources and opportunity of China at that time. And you struggled to get the visa to US. I can saftely summe you have have been so lucky that you forgot maybe 1 in 100 people at your age got that luck, no metter how routine and boring you are doing right now .:)
The guy in your story is entirely different, he is the true loser of his own society. No education, and got criminal record, no willing of good life, why China should grant him any dream? "Chinese Dream" is the tile you shoudl really understand to use. :) - posted on 01/07/2006
Many years ago, I took an English language class taught and managed by Americans in China. It cost me 800 RMB for a couple of evening classes --- still very expensive at the time, but a lot of young people enrolled for a chance to practice English conversation with real foreigners. I suspect it was a Christian organization disguised as educational institute to spread the Gods words, so the money would probably go to the charity, anyway I dont mind that at all. The problem was that the teaching materials were outdated and boring and the instructor misspelled even simple words. When being corrected, he got all offended and gave us some BS about how respectable the institute was in the U.S. I mean thanks for coming all the way to China but this is not the right way to do charity!
Oh, btw, I don't think race matters. I don't care if they are losers or not in their own country, or if they can get Chinese girls. The only thing that matters is: do you have the necessary expertise to do your job? - posted on 01/07/2006

Some girls even married this sort of American Trash. Compared to them, your experience was not that bad. Don't complain too much. :) - posted on 01/07/2006

Race and Color doesn't matter (Sure). Winner or Loser doesn't matter(here cast my doubts). But one thing does matter, that's the willingness, the eagerness, and the unsuppressed motivation for a better life. If you write up a story, the depict on that, and the writer's ability to depict on that, determies your taste, as a start. - once a loser, not always a loserposted on 01/07/2006
I understand what said that the society should be merit based.
But, you can't say if you become homeless once, you don't deserve a
new opportunity.
I once read a true story. A homeless person find a job to be a financial adviser. He has no place to go so he slept in the office.
His boss think he work so hard and promoted him. Guess what, later
he opened his own firm to manage money for other people.

" what? :) "
It means even though the foreigner are well respected in China, but they could be homeless in their own country.
It is similar to a fake official got undue respect from the crowd. - posted on 01/07/2006

Then write us about him. From your story roll-out, your casting words, we will judge whether they are qulified for the happy fairy-tale results. :)

The results have to be reasonable. Writing is not sth with broken words simple piled together.
China is different now. Whether the guy should be repsected, depends on how you write it. - posted on 01/07/2006
