The climbing gourd:
The climbing gourd (Alsomitra macrocarpa), native to the Sunda Islands of the Malay Archipelago, produces one of the largest winged seeds up to 5 inches (13 cm) wide inside a large, club-shaped gourd. The football-sized gourds hang from a vine high in the forest canopy, each packed with hundreds of winged seeds.

- posted on 09/28/2006

Lilacs

Thank you very much.

Perhaps I do not fully understand. Evergreens that serve as an effective privacy fence (dense screen) in narrow and lightly shaded area are what I need. I thought Japanses Maples tend to have big canopies and they are not evergreen. I do see many lilacs-like shrubs (I had to look it up to know what kinds of shrubs they are.) in local area, but they look pretty chunky too. Can both of them be shaped to only "climb" up on wall-like space?

They are beautiful. Our last bonsai had died years ago, it (I prefer not to call it the body or mummy of it) is still in the basement in the old pot. It was freezed to death during a couple unexpected-cold autumn nights outside. :-(
