Just watched "A Date with Luyu", a talk show on Phoenix Satellite TV, interviewing a gay couple, MARRIED, and their 28-year-old adopted son, who just got married himself to a girl. I know there are many gay people in China, but I didn't know until now that they could actually be this open and even get married! This particular couple is from SiChuan, one from ChongQing, the other ChengDu, two provincial cities not known to be very open-minded.
Although they seem to be very happy (actually, they are), they have had some difficult time. One of them had some sexual relationship with other men (出墙!), and the other ran away. But they got back together eventually, although the one who had some extramarital relationship admits that he is still sometimes attracted by some other men. But "love is most important after all", he says.
In terms of their personalities, it is pretty obvious that one of them (the one who had extramarital relationship, not very manly looking) is more dominant than the other (the one who ran away, more manly looking with a mustache). I have heard from gay people themselves that they don't play roles in their relationship in terms of husband and wife. But this couple does seem to be composed of a husband and a wife, although their roles seem to be opposite to their appearances.
Their adopted son calls them father and uncle, and the three males lived together for 16 years before the son got married to a girl, and now the four of them are living under the same roof in perfect harmony, just like a traditional family in China.
I am speechless after watching this piece. It is simply amazing! I am not sure whether Chinese law allows same-sex marriage. But they claim they have been married for over 20 years, and they are widely accepted by all people around them.
What is the conclusion? American gay couples should consider getting married in China!

I don't think they are legally married and I don't believe Chinese gay or lesbian not being discriminated in China. I don't believe any media reports under a dictatorship while there is no other voices being heard. It is very skillful in this country at the moment to create illusions. - Re: Same-sex marriage in China --- utterly amazing !posted on 02/21/2007
