Is <<һë>> a fiction or non-fiction?
That is an important question to be answered.
View it as a fiction (fiction - made up) if it is a fiction.
View it as a recollection of what really happened if it is non-fiction.
What is it!?

These kinds of books are considered "personal narratives", in this case, loosely a biography by oneself. In most of the libraries, they are listed under the authors' name, as fictions are. Non-fiction books are mostly listed by categories (there are several popular library call number systems e.g. non fiction can be by subject and call# are numbers.).
Even Eileen Zhang claimed lots of her books are novels, people especially those from her own families are still not happy about the contents of her writings. The same had happened on Dan Brown's novel DaVinci Code, even though most of them were driven by financial profits.

Of course it is a non-fiction. It is a memoir. It has Professor Yu-Yingshi's recommendation on the cover. I certainly read it as a memoir (true story).
I have no idea how libraries treat these books. You may ask a reference librarian.
Sometimes this kind of books do not sound true. Then we should not trust it. I know a particular case where the author, after the publisher was willing to publish her manuscript as a memoir, suggested that the publisher publish it as a fiction. The publisher immediately wrote back saying if this is not a true story we would trash it instead of publishing it. The author then wrote back swearing everything in it is true, and then got it published. In this particular case, even though it later became a bestseller, I never trusted it and I despise its author because I'm afraid she is just a big liar. - Re: 轻若鸿毛、重能撼山 (from 朱小棣<<闲书闲话集>>@yidian.org)posted on 11/18/2007
