As someone whose livelihood depends on English you should've long known this guy. He loves to don a white suit in public and looks nothing but a prig to me. posted on 08/08/2008
I love this Tom Wolfe, I read him all my life :-) They are different people.

This is a different and early one. I read his piece on how he wrote his first novel and was very impressed and astonished. But I never actually read his novel.

I might have been attracted to the title of his second novel "Of Time and the River: A Legend of Man's Hunger in His Youth" and read an excerpt of it in another book and was really impressed.
What a title, very Heideggerean!

But his --- Look Homeward Angel is his best, so vivid and lots of humor and tear in it.
He was so good at writing about death...

Touche and I talked about same person---Thomas Wolfe, the book Touche mentioned is this book :
Of Time and the River By Thomas Wolfe
I think Touche doesn't like LaoFang's Tom Wolfe, he says that wolfe "He loves to don a white suit in public and looks nothing but a prig to me. "
:-)

I wrote a piece called "Time is a River",

I am not familiar with comtemporary authors. Seldom read them. Only discovered them when someone threw their books out. I never buy books at bookstore here. Too expensive and too little time to read, so I only read discarded books. posted on 08/09/2008
my friend predicted his 2004 novel of campus corruption (in which a psychologist won a nobel prize--a rare event) will be an interesting movie. I can't wait.
