- Re: Obama is projected to win Pennsylvania!posted on 11/05/2008

I am happy Florida and Ohio went blue.
民主党 2000 年和 2004 年的伤心地啊! - posted on 11/05/2008
I rushed in the house with grocery bags in one hand, turned on the TV with the other. And there it was, all major networks are calling it for Obama, at precisely 8pm Pacific time. I stood there speechless, soaking in the moment. In one day, by electing Obama, American people undid 8 long years of damage done by a cabal of oily business tycoons and tongue-speaking Jesus freaks, held together at its head by a petulant dote. Under Bush's leadership, we are at two wars with no ending in sight; the economy is in shambles; the global "warming" is just an euphemism for the world going down in flame. It's a miracle he hadn't invaded Iran and North Korea. And then finally, our national nightmare ended.
I started to flip channels, not wanting to be deceived yet again by the media's careless early "projections" like in 2000, where I went to sleep believing Gore had won Florida. When they put the total electoral votes over 300, that's my first farklempt moment. Just think about it, a man from a truly humble beginning, a man of color, a man named Barak Hussein Obama has been elected president of the UNited States of America. How cool is that? I am so struck by the number of people who voted beyond the skin color of the man. It's not a hyperbole to say that this simple gesture of maturity restored the greatness of this nation. You can now wipe off the smiles of smug Euro-trash - I refuse to believe the Germans or the French are more racially tolerant people.
Given the sheer size of the problems facing us, I doubt Obama will work miracle and solve all problems at once. When he gave his speech tonight, you can see the gravity of the situation weighted heavily on him. It was not much an exuberant celebration than a call for action. Even as a hardcore partisan, I am moved by his sincerity in calling for bipartisanship. You may doubt whether he can pull it off, given the sad state of bickering warfare in Washington. He needs it; the country needs it. The important thing is, his ascendency to power signifies change. Maybe it's just a cliche, merely symbolism. But symbolism matters. When future seems bleak, a leader emerges if he can point the direction. Tonight he passed a crucial test when he spoke to the people, without so many words. His calm demeanor belies a steely resolve. The country is in good hands.

Yes. And the people have spoken.
I view this as the beginning of a new era in which America will become an integral part of the world. We have been isolated for too long. - posted on 11/05/2008
Dear President-Elect Obama,
When everybody is congratulating you for the historical acheivements, I would also remind you that, as you stated yourself, it is just a beginning. You will be judged upon by history not because of tonight, but your actions in the next 4 or 8 years. From bottom of my heart, I salute you but also hope you could look through the crowd, the balloon, the fire works, and see a trenchous road ahead. Here are several points I can think of.
(1) Be humble. Granted, the election victory is a reward for your hard work in the past 22 months. However, the result reflected, in large part, not about you but people's hope to the future. Regardless of your relatively inexperience, people has invested their interests in you. This is also a trumpet for our idealism, our believes in liberty and a democratic system at work. Don't ever be overconfident about yourself.
(2) Be concilatory. At this very difficult juncture in our nation's history, you are representing the interests for all of us, young or old, white, black or asian, voted for you or voted against you. This nation needs regain the trust towards each other as well as our government.
(3) Be colorless. Despite of all the injustice towards african american in the past, the african americans can only stand up on its own feet, not by entitlement. You are in a unique position to preach this message, and make a change.
(4) Be couragous. Look into the future, lay the foundation for the american economy to be dorminant in the next a quarter century. This is what the histry has bestowed upon you, and not necessarily seen the results in your own term, but it is for our sons and daughters.
When I watched your speech last night, I can nearly hold my tears while at the bottom my heart, I can't help but think of my motherland and felt a profound sadness, but more importantly, hope.
Democracy will prevail. - Re: Obama is projected to win Pennsylvania!posted on 11/05/2008

Thanks, IN...:-)
As the matter of fact, I always think Obama gave his best speech in IN on the day of stock market crashed, dropping almost 900 points, this is why I wanted to try my best and believed he could take over IN.

I agree with this sentiment in principal. In reality, Affirmative Action has lifted countless black ghetto families out of poverty and moved them into middle class. It's one giant step in realizing a color blind society by electing Obama to the presidency, but more needs to be done.
However, I would support a program based on economic status rather than racially based. - Re: President-elect Obamaposted on 11/05/2008
- posted on 11/05/2008
