Beatles
"Yer Blues" is a song by The Beatles, the second song on the
second disc of The Beatles. It was written by John Lennon
while in Rishikesh, India.
John Lennon, Eric Clapton & Jimi Hendrix Band - Yer blues
Yes I'm lonely wanna die
Yes I'm lonely wanna die
If I ain't dead already
Ooh girl you know the reason why.
In the morning wanna die
In the evening wanna die
If I ain't dead already
Ooh girl you know the reason why.
My mother was of the sky
My father was of the earth
But I am of the universe
And you know what it's worth
I'm lonely wanna die
If I ain't dead already
Ooh girl you know the reason why.
The eagle picks my eye
The worm he licks my bones
I feel so suicidal
Just like Dylan's Mr. Jones
Lonely wanna die
If I ain't dead already
Ooh girl you know the reason why.
Black cloud crossed my mind
Blue mist round my soul
Feel so suicidal
Even hate my rock and roll
Wanna die yeah wanna die
If I ain't dead already
Ooh girl you know the reason why.
Jimi Hendrix
Lennon apparently intended the song as a friendly parody
of British blues. He said in a Rolling Stone interview that he
used the humorous title as something of a defense mechanism,
so that if anyone criticized the song, he could write it off as
a parody.
Aside from that, he claimed to be serious about the content
of the song. The lyrics are extremely suicidal, and include
references to Bob Dylan's "Ballad of a Thin Man" as well as
cosmology, and were possibly reflective of Lennon's well-documented
battles with his psychological demons.

THE BEATLES by STOKES GEOFFREY, Introduction
Once, a year ago(four years ago? Last month?), I was asked by Rolling Stone to write a 5000-word introduction to a definitive volume on the Beatles—not the, but The Beatles. I instantly assented; but that was then, and today is fraught, and these everal words must replace, inadequately, alas, what an introduction ought to do.
I fell in love with the Beatles’ music (and simultaneously, of course, with their four faces-cum-personae) along with my children, two girls and a boy, in whom I discovered the frabjous falsetto shriek-cum-croon, the ineluctable beat, the flawless intonation, the utterly fresh lyrics, the Schubert-like flow of musical invention and the Fuck-You coolness of these Four Horsemen of Our Apocalypse, on the Ed Sullivan Show of 1964. Jamie was then twelve, Alexander nine, and Nina two. Together we saw it, The Vision, in our inevitably different ways (I was forty-six!), but we saw the same Vision, and heard the same Dawn-Bird, Elephant-Trump, Fanfare of the Future. What Future? Here we are, fifteen years later, and it’s all gone. But for a decade or so, or even less, it remained the same Vision-Clarion, yet increasingly cogent, clear, bitter – and bettwe.
Perhaps the clearest, bitterest (and maybe best) was an album called Revolver(pace Sgt. Pepper, Abbey road, et al.). Of this album, perhaps the very best was a little-known ditty called “She Said She Said,” the very thought and memory of which recalls all the beauty of those Vietnamese Varicose Veins. The notes healed, the words teased; or perhaps it was vice versa. But something teased, and something healed, year after year, Rigby after Rigby, Paperback after Norwegian, perhaps ultimately signified in the gleaming, dreary truth of “She’s Leaving Home.”
Meanwhile, there was a slim volume of pure verbal genius by a new author called John Lennon: In His Own Write. If this weren’t enough to rhapsodize upon, there were the notes (and the sylph-siren voice) of one McCartney. These two made a pair embodying a creativity mostly unmatched during that fateful decade. Ringo – a lovely performer. George – a mystical unrealized talent. But John and Paul, Saints John and Paul, were, and made, and aureoled and beatified and eternalized the concept that shall always be known, remembered and deeply loved a The Beatles.
And yet, the two were merely something, the four were It. The interdependence was astonishing, and in some ways appalling; do we really need all this to sustain us When We’re 64? Well, today I am almost 64, and three bars of “A Day in the Life” still sustain me, rejuvenate me, inflame my senses and sensibilities.
Nina, who was way back then in ’64, is now seventeen; and only last week we took out that thick, wretched Beatles volume of ill-printed sheet music and reminisced at the piano. We wept, we jumped with the joy of recognition (“She’s a Woman”) – just the two of us, for hours (“Ticket to Ride,” “A Hard Days’s Night””I Saw Her Standing There”)……
That was last week. The Beatles are no more. But this week I am still jumping, weeping, remembering a good epoch, a golden decade, a fine time, a fine time….

Paperback Writer
伯恩斯坦说Beatles最佳专辑是Revolver(中译“左轮手枪”),我就转
Paul has said that he had always liked the sound of the words
'paperback writer' and decided to build his story round them.
Paper back writer (paperback writer)
Dear Sir or Madam, will you read my book?
It took me years to write, will you take a look?
It's based on a novel by a man named Lear
And I need a job, so I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
It's the dirty story of a dirty man
And his clinging wife doesn't understand.
His son is working for the Daily Mail,
It's a steady job but he wants to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
Paperback writer (paperback writer)
It's a thousand pages, give or take a few,
I'll be writing more in a week or two.
I can make it longer if you like the style,
I can change it round and I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
If you really like it you can have the rights,
It could make a million for you overnight.
If you must return it, you can send it here
But I need a break and I want to be a paperback writer,
Paperback writer.
Paperback writer (paperback writer)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pwap79uy1G8&feature=related
The epistolary style of the song came to Paul as he drove down
to Weybridge for a day's writing with John. "As soon as I arrived
I told him that I wanted us to write it as if it was a letter," he said.
Tony Bramwell recalls that the inspiration for much of the lyric came
from an actual letter written to Paul by a aspiring novelist.

All you need is Love
--All you need is love:
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
It's easy.
There's nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you
in time - It's easy.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
Love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love, love.
All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
There's nothing you can know that isn't known.
Nothing you can see that isn't shown.
Nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be.
It's easy.
个国家广播的一个节目(Our World -- on June 25, 1967)而制作。
The Song not only had simple words and an uncomplicated tune
but it perfectly captured the aspiration of international youth in
the summer of 1967. This was the time when the Vietnam war
reached its height.....
In its call for universal love, "All You Need is Love" extended the
message that John had first tried to put across in "The Word" in
1965 to a worldwide audience. He was fascinated by the power
of slogans to people and was determined to write something of
his own with the timelessness of "We Shall Overcome"(a labour union
song popularized in the Sixties by fold singer Pete Seeger).
When asked in 1971 whether songs like "Give Peace A Chance" and
"Power to the People" were propaganda songs, he answered, "Sure.
So was 'All You Need Is Love'. I'm a revolutionary artist. My art is
dedicated to change".

A Day in The Life
Paul's unfinished song, a bright and breezy piece about getting
out of bed and setting off for school, was spliced between the
second and third verses of John's song. The reference to having
a smoke, dreams and 'turn-ons' meant that the track was banned
from the airwaves in many countries. There was even some who
were convinced that the holes in Blackburn, like the holes Paul
had been keen to fix, were heroin addicts' track marks.
I read the news today oh, boy
About a lucky man who made the grade
And though the news was rather sad
Well, i just had to laugh
I saw the photograph
He blew his mind out in a car
He didn't notice that the lights had changed
A crowd of people stood and stared
They'd seen his face before
Nobody was really sure if he was from the house of lords
I saw a film today oh, boy
The english army had just won the war
A crowd of people turned away
But i just had to look
Having read the book
I love to turn you on.
Woke up, got out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up, i noticed i was late
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke
Somebody spoke and i went into a dream
Ah
I read the news today oh, boy
Four thousand holes in blackburn, lancashire
And though the holes were rather small
They had to count them all
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall
I'd love to turn you on
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the albert hall
In 1968 Paul admitted that 'A Day in the Life' was what he called
'a turn-on song'. "This was the only one on the album written as a
deliberate provocation," he said. "But waht we want to do is to
turn you on to the truth rather than on to pot."
George Marin comments:"The woke up, got out of bed bit was
definitely a reference to marijuana but 'Fixing A Hole' wasn't about
heroin and 'Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds' wasn't about LSD..."

Honey Pie
(Saying...)
She was a working girl
North of England way
Now she's hit the big time
In the U.S.A.
And if she could only hear me
This is what I'd say.
(Sing...)
Honey pie you are making me crazy
I'm in love but I'm lazy
So won't you please come home.
Oh honey pie my position is tragic
Come and show me the magic
of your Hollywood song.
You became a legend of the silver screen
And now the thought of meeting you
Makes me weak in the knee.
Oh honey pie you are driving me frantic
Sail across the Atlantic
To be where you belong.
Honey pie, come back to me.
I like it like that,
Oohh, I like this kinda, hot kind of music.
Hot kind of music, play it to me,
Play it to me Hollywood blues
Will the wind that blew her boat
Across the sea
Kindly send her sailing back to me.
Honey pie you are making me crazy
I'm in love but I'm lazy
So won't you please come home.

Across the Universe
Across the Universe was written after John met him but
before studying with him in India, the chorus makes mention
of Guru Dev, who was Maharishi's guru.
The song is about writing songs, or at least about the wonders
of the creative process, John was often to refer to it as one of
his favourite Beatles' songs because of the purity of the lyric.
The words had come to him while in bed at Kenwood. He had been
arguing with Cynthis(wife & ex-) and, as he lay ther trying to
sleep, the phrase 'pools of sorrow, waves of joy' came to him and
wouldn't leave until he got up and started writing them down.
The mantra - Jai guru deva om - All Glory to Guru Deva. "om" ---

Because
The similarity between the opening of the 'Moonlight Sonata'
and 'Because' is striking, although close scrutiny reveals it to
be a straightforward lift rather than the reversal of notes John
suggested.
Misicologist Wilfrid Mellers, author of Twilight of the Gods: The
Music of the Beatles puts it this way, "The affinity between the
enveloping, arpeggiated C sharp minor triads, with the sudden
shift to the falt supertonic, is, in the Lennon and Beethoven
exaples, unmistakable."
Because the world is round it turns me on
Because the world is round...aaaaaahhhhhh
Because the wind is high it blows my mind
Because the wind is high......aaaaaaaahhhh
Love is all, love is new
Love is all, love is you
Because the sky is blue, it makes me cry
Because the sky is blue.......aaaaaaaahhhh
Aaaaahhhhhhhhhh....
There was a touch of irony in the idea of Beatles borrowing from
Beethoven because there was a common perception at the time
that rock'n'roll was antithetical to classical music and that no-one
could geniunely appreciate both. It also probably didn't help that
the Beatles had recorded Chuck Berry's 'Rock Ove Beethoven'...
it was John, in particular, who came to regard Beethoven as the
supreme composer, and one with whom he felt kinship. By 1969,
he was no longer trying to be the artistic equal of Elvis or the rolling
Stones, but of Picasso, Van Gogh, Dylan Thomas and Beeth...

Michelle
All you need is love引子是马赛曲,而Beatles另一首有法国渊源
"Michelle" has its origins in the popularity of French Left Bank
culture during McCartney's Liverpool days.
Paul chose to go with the Fench feel and to incorporate a
French name and some French words. "I asked her what sort
of things I could say that were French and which would go
together well" said Paul. "It was because I'd always thought
that the song sounded French that I stuck with it. I can't speak
French properly so that's why I needed help in sorting out the
actual words."
'sont les mots qui vont tres bien ensemble'--These are words
that go together well.
Michelle, ma belle.
These are words that go together well,
My Michelle.
I love you, I love you, I love you.
That's all I want to say.
Until I find a way
I will say the only words I know that
You'll understand.
I need to, I need to, I need to.
I need to make you see,
Oh, what you mean to me.
Until I do I'm hoping you will
Know what I mean.
I love you...
I want you, I want you, I want you.
I think you know by now
I'll get to you somehow.
Until I do I'm telling you so
You'll understand.
When Paul played the song to John he suggested the 'I love
you' in the middle section, specifying that the emphasis should
fall on the word love each time.
"My contribution to Paul's songs was always to add a little bluesy
edge to them," John said. "Otherwise 'Michelle' is a straight
ballad."

Good Morning, Good Morning
Good morning, Cafe! or as Lennon said, to turn you on...
Good morning good morning
good morning good morning
good morning, a
Nothing to do to save his life
call his wife in
Nothing say but what a day
how's your boy been
Nothing to do, it's up to you
I've got noting to say but it's O.K.
Good morning good morning
good morning a
Going to work don't want to go
feeling low down
Heading for home you start to roam
then you're in town
Everybody knows there's nothing doing
Everything is closed, it's like a ruin
Everyone you see is half asleep
And you're on your own, you're in the street
After a while you start to smile
now you feel cool
Then you decide to take a walk by the old school
Nothing has changed it's still the same
I've got nothing to say but it's O.K.
Good morning good morning
good morning a
People running 'round it's five o'clock
Everywhere in town it's getting dark
Everyone you see is full of life
It's time for tea and meet the wife
Somebody needs to know the time
glad that I'm here
Watching the skirts you start to flirt
no you're in gear
Go to a show you hope she goes
I've got nothing to say but it's O.K.
Good morning good morning
good morning good morning
As a result, 'Good Morning, Good Morning' was a song about
having nothing to say - "a piece of garbage" as John later
described it.

Nowhere Man
Pet Sounds(也是名专辑),
John wrote it early one morning after a night out and it marked
the beginning of his overtly philosophical musings.
'Nowhere Man' was always assumed to be either about a specific
person or about an archetypal member of 'straght' society whose
life had no purpose.
"I'd actually stopped trying to think of something," John told Hunter
Davies. "Nothing would come. I was cheesed off and went for a lie
-down, having given up. Then I thought of myself as Nowhere Man
-- sitting in his nowhere land."

For No One
A ballad about the end of a relationship, one of McCartney's
most mature and poignant works to date. Musically the track
is particularly distinguished by its French horn solo.
John Lennon said of the song, "One of my favourites of his—
a nice piece of work."
Sgt
Pepper...和the White Album。
McCartney recalls writing "For No One" in the bathroom of a ski
resort in the Swiss Alps. while on holiday with his then girlfriend
Jane Asher. He said, "I suspect it was about another argument."
The song's working title was "Why Did It Die".
For No One, an abbreviation for "Symphony Number One" ?

Taxman
Complain:
Let me tell you how it will be;
There's one for you, nineteen for me.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Should five per cent appear too small,
Be thankful I don't take it all.
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
(if you drive a car, car;) - I’ll tax the street;
(if you try to sit, sit;) - I’ll tax your seat;
(if you get too cold, cold;) - I’ll tax the heat;
(if you take a walk, walk;) - I'll tax your feet.
Taxman!
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Don't ask me what I want it for, (ah-ah, mister Wilson)
If you don't want to pay some more. (ah-ah, mister heath)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Now my advice for those who die, (taxman)
Declare the pennies on your eyes. (taxman)
'Cause I’m the taxman,
Yeah, I’m the taxman.
Taxman,Love You To,Tomorrow
George
George
John later said that he had a hand in the writing of 'Taxman'
and he was bitter that George had neglected to mention this in
the account he wrote in his autobiography, I Me Mine. John
claimed that George phoned him up as he was writing it. "I threw
in a few one-liners to help the song along, because that's what
he asked for, " he said "I didn't want to do it... but because I
loved him...I just sort of bit my tongue and said OK."
Certainly the published version is an improvement on George's
rough draft, in which 'get some bread' was rhymed with 'before
you're dead' and there was none of the bitting humour...
