RUINS OF ROMA
It¡¯s 6.33, Evening,
The train burned to a halt
Final Destination: Roma Termini
Just another ordinary day
Everybody was running
Everybody was running
She¡¯s waiting in Hotel Aphrodite
Room No. 336
Smoking a secret, I spied Augustus blowing into Gaius¡¯ eyes
Sucking a pearl, I watched young Mencius pissing in Persepio of Jerusalem
Smelling a coin, I walked the streets singing the hymn O Passage of Sense
O Lord, speed ma ma may
May I taste your heart?
How much for a night?
Single or double?
Somebody¡¯s waiting. I¡¯m late
A double for Euro 120
It¡¯s Finished! Sweet ball! Cold toad!
Let me make a call
In the end, I ended up at Hotel Mariso
It¡¯s so forgettable, I forgot the room number
It¡¯s only been three days ago
It¡¯s true.
If you cut off your tail, you¡¯ll be the Lizard Queen
I think that¡¯s what the Priest said to Janus
Tomorrow, I¡¯ll be gone
If you turned ROMA upside down,
You get Fountain of Gold
If you turned ROMA inside out,
You get Cocktail of Youth
Now, you may go your way to pillage the coffers and rap your rewards of laborious G
Museo Neopolatino where thick iron gates are chained in thick steel wards¡
A Policeman whistled at the pigeons
They scattered everywhere, everywhere
Then, Circus of Ristorantes
Bemused diners laughing and coughing
Blood white taxis roaming to velvet gun Rome bomb
Extinguisher of Fate, He is May Shepherd
Merchant of Midnight, She sold ma bullets for a bloated sheep
Holy Maria who glows in the Chapel of Hope
So you know you are you are blessed
For the wine for holy consecration for sins forgiven
To be absoluted
To be liberated
To be celebrated
Dance! Dance! Dance!
Swim! Swim! Swim!
Smoke! Smoke! Smoke!
Is this Roma?
Si! Si! Si!
I have reached a dead end though there¡¯s no sign to signal red,
I stopped when I arrived at Lotus Flower Cinema
No more than a hundred and twenty two paces
I turned back the Hands of Hercules
He¡¯s ramming a rail tram called Argentina
In back row, a rock harlequin counts stars
Between road and rail, between day and night
Filming twilight silent motorcycles zooming off
Whence hot traffic lights sleep on half hour moons
Shining butter and bread bells of merriment
Steam phantoms rising out of manholes breeze
Stick-it-on poster cow happy opera picks
Slipping off ancient granite walls so haunting
Sister Ruth she puts a snail on a pillar a day a denarius
Six three quarter home commuters alight
No! Of course!
While he stopped, he fell asleep, lightning,
Two Roman messengers ran towards the bus
I followed them into the Square of Treason
It¡¯s already 10:29
Such an odd obelisk
I¡¯d rather forget but I remember
Part grand mystery of Human Nature
In 256 B.C., they gave alms to the Poor of Sex
In 262 B.C., they burned the Books of Debt
In 222 B.C., they sacked the City of Hope
It¡¯s Finished!
Then, he blew the saxophone
Nobody turned to see him
They have no bullets in the pockets
Then, they sang a nursery rhyme for adulterers
It¡¯s Hot Mary Farms or something
A song about water green pillow
Then, I jumped into a cab, back
To where I came before Christ
Long I recognized two sculptures in bronze
Tomorrow, I¡¯ll be back, I thought
How? I go to see the other miracles too
Tonight, Lady Gemini dances the flamenco
Flames! Beats! Sweats! Planets!
Do you know the way to the airport?
No.
Can you tell me how to get to the airport?
Yes.
How?
Take a taxi.
Can I take a bus?
Yes.
How Long?
About 45 minutes¡
Go to the hotel to make a booking¡
Grace be upon you¡
Half a day
There¡¯s a balcony
I stepped out to smoke a cigarette
To appear blue and purple
