I had to do a character analysis on the secretary of the Devil for a school project. Here it is:
I work in the HR department and my big boss is Lucifer the Devil. My job is to prep my clients before their meetings with the big boss. They need to go into the meeting composed, so they don’t have to end up being dragged in kicking and weeping. If achieved, everyone will be happy; if not, they are the ones that will suffer and they cannot blame me for that.
I like my job: I get to meet a lot of interesting dead people. I have secret contempt toward those mortals: their narrow minds, their trivial concerns. They are so wrapped up in their tiny little world that they think they are the center of the universe and they can live forever, and when things doesn’t work out as they planned, they just freak out. Nevertheless, I am sympathetic, and I do want to make their transitions as smooth as possible. There is really no need for the newly dead to make a scene all the time, that is just wrong attitude to start an afterlife! Sure, hell is not the most comfortable place to live, but many people already live in their own hells anyway --- when they murder someone they love, when they feel crazy jealous, that is hell right there. The way I see it, hell is actually a much better place: it removes all the uncertainty that plagues the mortals. No need to worry about death, since you are already dead. No need to worry about retirement fund, and certainty no need to worry about heater bills.
My dream is to become an Assistant Life-form designer. I like to help people to transform into different life forms. I am particularly fond of insects because they come in all varieties and it is very exciting to design them.
Quite contrary to what people believe, the major goal of our job is to give pleasure. What the life-form has to do to obtain that pleasure --- that is the interesting part of the design. Sure there will be suffering, but that is exactly what makes the pleasure more desirable. Can you imagine how boring life can be if pleasure can be obtained without any effort? At the end of the day, people may say they have sinned, or they have suffered, but they cannot claim that they have never enjoyed.
I hold high respect for the boss, but I don’t worship him like some mortals. That is just silly. He is very busy man. Very practical, and frugal --- never let a soul go in waste. Some rumors say that the boss competes with the big guy upstairs for souls. That is just nonsense. Sure, every couple of hundred years some precious souls may come along and they will engage in a friendly competition, but typically there are about 10 times as many people come down here every day than those who go up there, the boss never needs to recruit. When it comes to destiny assignment the boss has way more workloads than his counterpart: that is a lot of job for someone who doesn’t even proclaim himself to be omnipotent!

- Re: Character Analysisposted on 04/14/2011

I was picturing Alan Cumming when I wrote about the big boss.

- Re: RE: Character Analysisposted on 04/14/2011
- Re: RE: Character Analysisposted on 04/16/2011
- Re: RE: Character Analysisposted on 04/20/2011
