Hey, I'm seriously thinking to have D80 too. We can share information about it in cafe light if you like. My current camera Kodak D400 has been serving me for 7 years and has fallen on solid ground twice.
I am struggling in choosing between D80 and D200 since Nikon has dropped the price of the higher end D200 therefore the prices of D80 and D200 are pretty close now.

If you like D200, I'd suggest you to take a look at Sony Alpha. The later use the same sensor(same manufacturer, same model) as D200(which means same picture quality) yet with richer features and faster speed. And the price tag is about half of D200.
Generally, if you are looking for an entry level DSLR, I'd say avoid Nikon and Canon. They deliberately stipe off features and lower down th - st dude
That's very important and valuable information. Thanks. I'm defenitely going for entry level stuff. I am also that kind customer with blind faith. When a good quality camera being mentioned, Nikon and Canon always come into my mind.

I guess you may need a 50 mp or so digital camera. But I am not sure if my guess is correct.
Suppose 100 ppi big screen is clear enough for our eyes. Your 100 inches projector screen is about the size 60x80 (100^2 = 60^2 + 80^2). So
vertical: 100 x 60 = 6,000 pixel
horizon: 100 x80 = 8,000 pixel
total 6,000 x8,000 = 48,000,000 pixel= 48 mega pixel
I heard Canon currently is developing 5 - st dude
I think you and guanzhong both are right. lens with great zoom functionality is very important. a digital camera body is just a computer. A good image has be made by good lens at first, then processed by the computer(body).

Well, G7 does have many features normally only available on SLRs. However, disappointingly what it doesn\'t have is a raw mode, which appears to have been completely dropped by Canon for its compact models - presumably to protect the sales of entry-level digital SLRs.
Without raw mode, you will have much less control of your images. - st dude
Very good picture. Just a little bit underexposure. But overall I am very impressed if it is shot by a point N shoot camera. What's brand/model of your camera? Thanks.

No, it is not a little bit under exposure. The overall exposure is just right. It is just a little bit lack for details in the dark area (lower left), and the color of dark blue sky can be more vivid . That\'s not any camera can do, but you can use Photoshop to fix it (many compact cameras are capable of shooting raw pics). If the original picture is in raw mode, you can produce one pict - D200

Good point. Raw mode is very much a concern to me. Some cameras don't have raw mode, they only output compressed images (jpg). This may make the computer image processing problematic, which is very much what I enjoy doing (not necessarily using Photoshop). - st dude
Thank you. I just checked this camera. I think you made a vey good choice. Its Shutter speed can be as slow as 15 secs. no wonder you can take good night photograph. And it can also be as far as 1/3200 sec. Normally many P&S cameras just 1/1600 sec.
- st dude
You just brought up another question I thought to ask/talk about:
Do all Pros use Photoshot to cook their photos today? Also, are those photos on exhibit photoshoted or not?
Some people say any photoshoted photos are not photography art, they are graphic art.
I dont have photoshot, but I know it is a very useful, very expensive and very good tool. Maybe just an average camera + photoshot - st dude
The 3rd one (night) is very good. I like it. You can keep your P&N for some time.

Thanks for the information. Is the aperture f3.5-5.6 good enough for low light situation? How about bokeh?

I bought a D80 about a month ago. I think it's great. Although I know aboslutely nothing about photography, the camera has made me a pro, or at least look like a pro, especially to those as ignorant as I am.
Pros:
* Long batter life. Thousands of pictures per charge.
* Reasonably fast: 3 frames/sec.
* Instant turn-on, as if it sees attractive blondes all the time.
Cons:
* Too bulky. Not - ME
Back in the good old days when photography was 100% done by film cameras, the prof. photographers did use a lot of darkroom tricks to manipulate their pics for different results. Today there is not much difference except that all the re-processing work is done on computers, and more features are available than before. If you take a look at the Windows Vista wallpaper, those pics were shot by the - D200
