《Angela’s Ashes:A Memoir》by Frank McCourt | Jul 23 2007- 2006-03-24
Ive read a heartbreaking story in a cafe where is part of facilities of the book centre this afternoon.
A winner of Pulitzer Prize, titled Angelas Ashes:A Memoir, the autobiography written by Frank McCourt, who is a writing teacher himself in a high school, tells a story about how a poor Irish family lost their three childrens due to the poverty and the ignorance in those hard times when United States slumped in the Depression and the Ireland suffered from the dampness and the hatre of English..
The story was told from the vision belonged to the first kid of the family ,Frank McCourt himself..His father, the senior Malachy was looking for job all the time and couldnt help to spend the sporadic wages on alcohoric drinks, despite of this irresponsible habit, he did love his five childrens ,especially the little lovely daughter who had blue eyes and curl hair.
During the days of Depression in United States, jobs were scarce and the family always suffered from hunger.Franks mother ,Angela ,who became a mother before became a woman ,was an inexperienced housewife raising five kids. She had to fight with her husband for the usage of his poor wages..Bread,milk,honey..all she thought about was to get some food back home and feed her kids..
Nonetheless, the miserable family had to face the dark destiny awaited for them already ..the first lost children was their deeply beloved angel, the little daughter, then Oliver, one of the twins, the last was the another one of the twins..they had gone one bye one, three children in total.
I havent finished the reading when I left the book centre, though It was really touching and captivating I still decided to put the book back on the rack.. I enjoyed the reading in the cafe and I would prefer come back here someday and finish the rest of the story without any distraction.
From my own opinion, its a book worthy of five stars
