- 新的一年快到了。我想建议，每个咖啡客都来推荐一本书，让大家明年有个读书单，多读书，少上网ADD。咖啡常客也好，过客也好，都来推荐。自己读过的觉得大家都应该读的也好，自己没读过但希望跟大家一起来读的也好，自己写的也好，中文英文甚至拉丁文教材也好，只要是大家能够买到或借到的就好。音乐CD也可以。电影就算了，推荐的已经很多了。
这样，我们可以组织一个2008年的咖啡读书会，也鼓励大家写读书报告。
如果实在想不出怎么推荐给大家，就推荐给我吧，把你们现在正看的书告诉我也好。年尾的时候，我都会让每个朋友推荐一本书给我的，我也因此读了一些我自己不会选的书。谢谢各位。

不过，我觉得一本似乎不够。因为我不知道别人，我读书其实也很ADD，除非有《霍乱时期爱情》这样的书拽着往下，否则，我一般都是好几本同时读。如果只能推荐一本，我推荐台湾人陈冠学的《大地的事》。
王小波的任何书都值得一读再读。

有人说他的书是对美国近代史的概括，也有人说他可以和海明威相比较。。。

- 闃垮先谢谢大家的积极参与。一下子就有这么多书了。我以为自己看书很杂，其实我看的多数是英美经典小说，当代作品和非小说看得太少了，所以要请朋友推荐。回守望古典，我们每个人推荐一本，放在一起就很多本，不是吗？如果你认为几本书要放在一起读（就是 How to Read a Book 里讲的最高级读书法 syntopical reading），当然也可以推荐啦。你要有更多的书推荐，还有明年呢。

- 鍏崄涓�瀛�The Book of Psalms, translated from Hebrew by Robert Alter. 我们几个月前讨论过，这本书对三千年前的旧约诗篇重新做了英文翻译和解说，尽可能地忠实于原文，改正了英国国王詹姆斯的1611年圣经版本里的很多谬误和附加概念，其中涉及到一些重要的神学概念，包括灵魂，拯救，魔鬼，永恒，等等。这些概念并不存在于希伯来语旧约诗篇里。
我是个atheist, 但我认为这本书可以放在床头，偶尔读一两首。

Susan MM, I don't think you need to know a lot about Bach to benefit from this book. This book is not about Bach or Escher, but more about Godel's theorem and its implications and applications. There's a lot of math (number theory, logic) and computer science, but nothing too difficult, because the author wants us to understand
- guanzhongThe main point of the book is neither Bach nor Escher, it is Godel's incompleteness theorem. So you can still benefit a lot from the book as far as this main point is concerned, even if you, like me, have no appreciation of Bach's music at all. Sorry that I may have offended quite some people here who are either Bach's experts or his fans. :-)

The Brethren, by John Grisham
我读过的Grisham的几部小说，个人感觉这本是最好的。小说主要描写中央情报局怎样以维护国家安全为名，一手操纵了一场总统大选。情节虽然纯属虚构，但是对美国选举政治、司法制度有相当的认知价值。作者本人曾经从事政治，所以对美国政治inner working的描写，也相当生动。
小说中刻划得最成功的人物，是落魄律师Trevor。另外，那个阴险狡诈、深藏不露的中央情报局�
- 闃垮昨天终于读完 GEB 了。今天在图书馆见到一本 Dalva，才五毛钱，买了下来。上星期在旧书店见到 Brethren，但要五块钱，没买，看了封底的情节介绍，挺吸引人的。
- xiaoman哈哈，今天才看到悟空的推荐。这个作家是美国的畅销小说作家里我最熟悉的，我看过几本他的小说，其它都好看，偏偏是你推荐这本，我没有坚持看下去，但里面那个写信勒索同性恋者的情节挺有意思的。：））

这本书非常好。陈丹青的《音乐笔记》也不错。《多余的素材》有少量篇章嫌重复。总的来说，我觉得还是《纽约琐记》最好
- abc读书是我很重要的爱好，也是我阿Q精神的支柱。我一般是见到还入眼的书就买，然后回家看，好看就看，不好看就扔，决不姑息。
所以我买的书很杂很杂，看的书比较杂，思想也比较杂，杂乱无章。
