- Re: 六四记忆posted on 06/06/2004
- Re: 六四记忆posted on 06/07/2004

- Re: 六四记忆posted on 06/07/2004

- posted on 06/09/2004
If I may call this poem a cup of coffee I would say it's tasty but deserves a better brand name. Honestly I didn't even read it in CND when I first saw the title, because I suspected that it was another piece that is all politically oriented without artictical charm. But I was wrong. Maybe a better title can be something like: "That day in Early June", which may have more artistic appealing. Anyway, glad to see more works with the power of art using that event as a background, which deserves such attention of course.

"这一天" will do.

Maybe a better title ... - Re: 六四记忆posted on 06/09/2004
Yes, that's much better. Please read my comment on Gao's play, which also covers my point here. Thanks for extension of the topic. - Re: 六四记忆posted on 06/10/2004
- posted on 06/11/2004
I'm not saying that Gao's play handles its political background well, but saying that it handles art even worse. Therefore, its life span is short because of its weakness in art not its weakness in handling current political event. In fact, it uses audience's interest in that event to draw attention to the play. If we don't care about that event, we may not have the interest in watching or reading that play. The case of zili's poem is just the opposite. He didn't draw my attention because of my political interest. Rather, its politicalized title drives me away. Only after I overcome the hurdle of that politicalized title I come closer to its content and art.
In general, my understanding of art work can be somewhat summarized like this:
1) I enjoy an art work if it is good in art,
2) I usually enjoy an art work even more if it also provides political or moral strngth,
3) My joy over an art work may be reduced if it conflicts with my political beliefs or moral principles,
4) I think the life span of an art work tends to be shorter if it depends too much on its links to political themes to draw people's attention - posted on 06/11/2004
well said. I tend to agree.
