as long as nested thread doesn't create extra headache for deletion. (scenario: what if a manually created thread is nested with thousands of auto-generated replies? Potentially a vulnerability).

how about change the "try a different image" TEXT to an ICON(button)?

keep in mind these measures are for DETERRENCE, not prevention. That's good enough.

他们用流动IP.
人为的spams 是防止不了的。我们还有加设注册管理系统，只能是让这些spamers 不方便而已。

Still saw spams last night though. Do we know if they bypassed this interface altogether or they just recognized the captcha images? If the latter, rotating, morphing the letters, adding more noises such as random strikes, curves to the images might help. If the former, short of enforcing registration, the only other way might be putting in a spam filter.
With a spam filter, you might even be able to filter manually inserted spams as a filter works against the contents and spammers have to deliver their messages. For instance, if you want to filter out 令胡, just put his name and his frequent words in the database. :)

Yes, rzp just deleted some by-pass interfaces.
However, if they use current site to post spams, we still can't avoid spams completely.
We are going to add more security functionalities and checks...

我现在要把这些在咖啡上做广告的网站放到一个黑名单上，用程序读， 然后处理掉， 不许进咖啡。
猫捉老鼠的游戏。好在七月真正的职业就是系统设计师。。。道高一尺，魔高一丈嘛。

two points:
1）能不能把验证码放到发贴的form的顶上（password的下面）？现在的位置是在最后面，有时候窗口小了，要像下滚动才看到，而且大部分的post是没有图片的，放到下面感觉不方便。
另外就是“send” button最好也放到上面一个，这样方便回帖。
2）用firefox的话，每次发新帖和回复，验证码好像都是显示最原始的那个（估计是cache里面的），但是那个码的话已经过期不能用了，要点一下“try a different image"才可以得到新的码。估计是php程序里面的session没有设置好，能不能查查？
