If you like D200, I'd suggest you to take a look at Sony Alpha. The later use the same sensor(same manufacturer, same model) as D200(which means same picture quality) yet with richer features and faster speed. And the price tag is about half of D200.
Generally, if you are looking for an entry level DSLR, I'd say avoid Nikon and Canon. They deliberately stipe off features and lower down the quality to protect their higher end market. For example, D80's maximum shutter speed is actually lower than D70. And D80 suppose to be an upgrade.
I use a Pentax K100D. I am very happy about it.
