Susan MM, I don't think you need to know a lot about Bach to benefit from this book. This book is not about Bach or Escher, but more about Godel's theorem and its implications and applications. There's a lot of math (number theory, logic) and computer science, but nothing too difficult, because the author wants us to understand the relationships between various subjects. Bach and Escher are merely the theorem's reflections in music and art. I don't know much about some of the topics (right now I am reading the part about DNA), but I can still learn from the book. You should give it a try. The minimum requirements are English reading skills, a sharp mind, and perhaps some ADD, all of which you have plenty. (But maybe this book is a ¼ûÈʼûÖÇ book, and different people read it differently. Who knows?)
