There are snobs everywhere. Opera snobs are some of the snobbiest snobs of all--like Yours Truly. We try to make you folks feel bad by showing off how much we know, and how valuable our opinions are, about operas. More often than not, we make sure that our snobbery masquerades as helpfulness, making you ashamed of your ignorance.:)

笑纳老尚的调侃，但不太同意老尚的说法。
Opera与Musical的艺术境界当然是有雅俗之别，但也不能说一为黄锺大吕，一为漏壶破觞。艺术的表现形式虽因群体意识的差异而自成不同体系，但艺术的价值取向在精神文化层面却是互为影响，相得益彰的。
就我个人来说，歌剧Carmen和Aida的与音乐剧Chicago和West Side Story因不在同一个历史时代，艺术成就也就不能同日而语。但只要心有灵犀，仍可通过艺术的共同点而融会贯通。Leonard Bernstein也曾经写过一部operetta（音乐歌剧）的Candide搅混，并在百老汇成功演出并获好评。
以现时国内的情况，是绝不可能有歌剧艺术见闻的。在地方戏剧正要吊死的时候，歌剧就更没人看了，洋歌剧就更是没人懂。就算有，曾一出杜兰多，在北京的票价高达$1000/张。能拿票的还不是你我他。
象小曼那样，能固执而又有能力，千里迢迢地跑到百老汇，看上一场让她“三生有幸”的戏，在国内恐怕也算是一绝了。这样的消费，在唐人街摆地摊的偷渡客终生也难逞一回。
