- yes, it's the later. That's where the huge debate comes from.
Some breakthrough in Stem Cell research last year bypasses this by transforming adult body cells to stem cells using gene transfer or such(a Japanese group and some people from Winsconsin). This should be a huge step further and hopefully will calm down those ethic voices if these techniques could be used widely.
