- Fengzi posted on 09/02/2007The world is increasingly feeling the tremor of a now waking and steadily walking giant. ----------------- China's influence spreads around world By WILLIAM FOREMAN, Associated Press Writer For nearly three decades, Chinese peasants have left their villages for crowded dormitories and sweaty assembly lines, churning out goods for world markets. Now, China is turning the tables. Here in the Australian Outback, Shane Padley toils in the scorching heat, 2,000 miles from his home, to bu

- Fengzi posted on 08/05/2007Does anybody here have any expperience with any software that supports Wubi on Windows XP? Ever since my computer upgraded by itself into XP SP2 months ago, I have been totally out of luck with typing in Chinese. While I'm aware of the PingYin input, it's extremely slow and my PingYin is not that great. Any help or insight here will be appreciated. You may either post your tips and help here, or if you prefer, you may also send an email to xufengzi@gmail.com. Thank you all in advance!

- Fengzi posted on 06/16/2007This speech parallels Steven Jobs' commencement speech in many aspects. Both speaker are college dropouts, amazing human beings, and remarkable visionaries. There is one notable distinction: Steven Jobs offers his personal insights into individual success, Bill Gates provides a map to the collective success of humanity as a whole. Both types of wisdom are equally valuable. We need to be successful ourselves first before we may help and make others successful. -----------------------------------------

- Fengzi posted on 02/18/2007By SIMON ELEGANT/BEIJING Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007 (www.time.com) As China prepares to celebrate the Lunar New Year this weekend, there is much hyperbole about the country's gleaming new skyscrapers, swelling middle class, dazzling preparations for the Olympics and so forth. But it is always worth getting a reality check on what underlies that rosy picture, the fact that China remains a highly repressive authoritarian state. I met recently in a small Beijing cafe with social activist Teng Biao and publi

Well worth reading And a few good laughs are guaranteed. -------------------------------------------- My father never drove a car. Well, that's not quite right. I should say I never saw him drive a car. He quit driving in 1927, when he was 25 years old, and the last car he drove was a 1926 Whippet. "In those days," he told me when he

Keivan Cohen, 20, was shot dead in 2002 by a Palestinian sniper in the Gaza Strip. He was single and left no will. But at the urging of his parents, a sample of his sperm was taken two hours after his death and has been stored in a hospital since. When the family

In that context his thoughts are particularly poignant. Last week there was an immigration overpopulation conference in Washington, DC, filled to capacity by many of American's finest minds and leaders. A brilliant college professor by the name of Victor Hansen Davis talked about his latest book, "Mexifornia," explaining how immigration - both legal

Unlike some cross-word puzzles popular in the U.S., Su Doku doesn't require a mastery of the English language and a large vocabulary. It works directly with logic and reasoning in their "purest" form possible. Although its rules are culturally independent, it is a hybrid of both Eastern and Western cultures, as the present game was shaped through a long trend of import/export among several developed countries. The message (sometimes encrypted) in these otherwise lackluster real-life happenings is certainly more relevant in shaping our understanding about ourselves and the world we are in. The Chinese developed an extensive network for information sharing between remote sites during the Zhou Dynasty (1027-777 B.C.). The network consisted of many guarded watch towers scattering across the kingdom. The message was transmitted from one tower to another through smoke and fire. When one town was attacked during the day, people woul

- Fengzi posted on 01/19/2004I'm working on a little prolonged project involving the protection mechanism, or lack thereof, of the intangible in the ancient Chinese civilization. Specifically, I would like to have a couple of accounts from any of the reliable historical sources that show how the ancients handled their secret recipes (for example, of traditional Chinese medicine, of cooking, or of martial art). I know such examples must be abundant in our history, but unfortunately, I couldn't lay my fingers on any specific ones, based
