Admiration for Bill in Europe actually increased after the Lewinsky scandal. Those people saw him as a "simpatico" hounded by the puritanical masses. Sure his adamant wife helped but it was deeper rooted in the anti-Americanism. The NY governor's wife was also standing by him(at least for now). Simplified Chinese characters arguably has its merit. Even so, I deeply feel the traditional Chinese characters is an invaluable heritage that we Chinese should strive to preserve. The abolishment of it would be a tragedy extending beyond merely the Chinese history and culture.
