Echo is an "participant observer", she's part of the story, without her there is no story. Her best works are not travel essays, but stories happened to occur in a foreign setting. Fuge is mostly a cool observer, an articulate aethetist, but we love him the most when he does, occasionally and subtly, reveal himself under the mask of a passerby.

Human beings are too stupid to understand religion as a metaphor, instead we take it literally by words.
