“宽容” is also "没法操作，没法要求". It is obviously clever for Elizabeth I to be 宽容, but with the Parliament, she wasn't allowed to be 专制 anyway. If she really pushed for it she may end up like Charles I --- beheaded. Elizabeth I was clearly a great monarch, but when we talk about 现代政治文明 today, we should stop idolizing individuals and start analysing political systems. Counting on the politicians to be 智慧和宽容 is simply wishful thinking.

老圣，我劝你和圣太太吵架时，一定既要讲理，又要讲情，不可只把情当作糖衣。如你所说，圣太太在用心。等她有一天对待你只用脑，而不再用心时，你哭都来不及。 Be careful what you are wishing for. 你的贴中多次提到“战绩”，“取胜”，这点苗头很不妙。如果你的“赢”是以你太太的“输”作为代价，那你已经输了。目标一定是要双赢。本人吵架，入情入理，战无不胜，但每次少则几小时，多则一天，一定后悔道歉。因为和自己的亲人吵架，不管赢得多么辉煌，都是做人的失败。这叫winning the battle but losing the war.

文章没看啊，光看了燃灯的总结。除了“无稽之谈”和“是为祸害”这两句外，其它基本同意。宗教就是人类这个孤独无助的小孩子在孤独无助的星球上为自己讲的bed-time story, 否则怎么能入睡呢？

哈，我这几天话又多起来了，原因：又回去上班了。我太羡慕可以不用上班的了，可是我革命尚未成功啊，离可以到rzp的社区里去做PTA服务的目标还遥遥无期啊。我除了看咖啡外，还看realtor.com, 就看你们洛杉矶，圣地亚哥，纽约的房价，越看越有气。：) 如果再有钱，我就住到修道院去。多么清爽的生活啊。我前几天还在想，像Paris Hilton这样的有钱人，不去住修道院，偏要整天喝酒,party,把自己累个半死，真笨。我想我不能太喝咖啡了。在飞速堕落为中年妇女的过程中，咖啡对我还是太奢侈了，有点消费不起。阿姗，rzp, 浮生，还�

老八的文章让我想到“Bart Simpson State”的说法，就是说美国的年轻男人以没文化为荣，把没文化当作street smart 的同义词。政客要在声光媒介的汪洋大海中抢镜头，优雅的语言怎么能够上新闻？就是要一语惊人，越极端越抢眼球。连总统，副总统都骂三字经。“和煦、谦让的语言”根本没用，我觉得现在的媒体文化就是reward the rudeness，越是在reality show上出口伤人的主持人，收视率越高，赚钱越多。文化界也是，前一阵看到一篇文章抱怨说以前的学者大半辈子搞研究，到50岁后用后半生写一部著作。现在不同，赚钱要早，出名要早。�

我不能算有ADD，但我有焦虑，拖延等很多症状。最明显的症状就是对以前不感兴趣的事情突然有兴趣，对有点兴趣的事情则到了obsessive的程度。这是一种逃避的方法，人必须找些说得过去的借口来拖延，好心安理得地避免做必须要做的事情。上网和玩游戏都是逃避的好办法，还有：把杂志从头看到尾，反复地把一件微不足道的小事做得尽善尽美，不断打扫卫生清理文件，本可以交给别人做的事一定要自己做，等等。所以我一旦突然特别想作什么事，就知道自己出问题了，几乎这种impulsive behavior背后总有什么我特别要逃避的事情。我看的书上的建议

友情提示一下：这个HELP牌子很可能是指书店里面的clerk的工作，而不是那3个小时的而且已经有人在干了的活儿。如果你一字不提应聘，工资，上来就要刷油漆，人家很可能以为你是要学雷锋。

不知道这里的“户籍”是什么意思，没听说有入了国籍后有剥夺国籍一说，只能是有居住权的侨民被剥夺居住权吧。华侨的定义是具有中国国籍的居住在国外的人，既然有中国国籍就有回中国的权利。

American Dreamz 很好玩，我从头笑到尾。不过也得看各人口味，either you will love it or you will hate it. 同意浮生说的。我看Citizen Kane，Star Wars 觉得老土得很，其实是因为大家都是抄他们的。 Godfather的确经典，我现在看Al Pacino老成那个样子都让人伤心。：)

以前欧洲人也是吃粮食的啊，抄一段历史书(Carolingian指查尔曼大帝的那个王朝) ： "For both rich and poor, the main staple of the Carolingian diet was bread. The aristocratic classes, as well as the monks consumed it in large quantities. Ovens at the monastery of Saint Gall were able to bake a thousand loaves of bread. Sometimes a gruel made of barley and oats was substituted for bread in the peasant diet." Homer's Odyssey中多次把“Barley and wheat”称为“the marrow of men”.

Gates没有Jobs有taste，是他自己公开承认了的。上个月他和Jobs同台露面时，观众问他们从对方学到了什么时，Gates说：“I'd give a lot to have Steve's taste... the way he does things is just different, I think it is magical”. Gates的令人敬佩之处，还不在于他投了多少钱在慈善事业上，而是在他投入的时间，精力。他的30billion的慈善基金虽然大得惊人，但他的野心更大，以至于这笔钱远远不够。他是在用资本家攻占市场的方式在调配资金，选择慈善项目，这点上的确是史无前例的。

唉，guanzhong 你如果硬要扩大打击面，把这个民族都给兜进去，那我也没辄，不过这是你自己说的，没我什么事儿啊，出了事你自己负责。：) 事实上，广大农村的情况反到是好的，因为农耕社会的妇女是把小孩背在背上劳动的，晚上也睡大炕的，身体接触够多。(不是我瞎编的啊，育儿书上看来的。) 再说了，农村有几个是因为考试得99，钢琴弹不好打孩子的？这讨论里本来就没几亿农民的事儿。
