I guess that is a price to pay when the brain of a specis is too evolved. I always think it is dangerous for ones ambition to exceed ones capability. Lately I realize it is also dangerous for ones capability to exceed ones ambition. When you are on the top, you tend to lose your 方向, while your position/throne is everybody else's 方向, and there is no gracious exit

- I was thinking about 童谣 also lately. A lot of them had morbid scenes. My "theory" is that adults intentionally or unintentionally express their anxiety or fear in 童谣 because 童谣 is a safe cover: nobody is supposed to take it seriously. An example is the famous Humpty Dumpty song. The sense of doom is so dark that it becomes hilariously funny: Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall. Humpty Dumpty had a great fall. All the king's horses and all the king's men, Couldn't put Humpty together again. -------

The United States was still stunned by the setback in Somalia shortly before (the movie “black hawk down” is excellent on depicting this event), therefore was very reluctant to be involved into another civil war in African nations. If there is no Somalia incident the U.S. would be much more willing to send troops to Rwanda.

- Posted by 玛雅 on 12/09/2005. Susan commented once.I was quite puzzled by the date (Dec.8) of this holiday. Since Christmas is on Dec. 25, it means Mary's pregnancy would have to last for more than one year. So I googled Wikipedia and got the following information that answered my question: ------------------------------------------------------------- The Immaculate Conception is a Catholic doctrine that asserts that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was preserved by God from the stain of original sin at the time of her own conception. Specifically, the doctr

I believe human beings have the foundemental needs to 1. categorize and differentiate themselves in whatever ways if not in religion. 2. expand their territories for whatever reasons if not for religion. Removing religions from human experiences (if at all possible) won't make much difference. .

It is fun to compare Jobs' dot-connecting story with HuiYuan's recent post on the dot-choosing algorizm.(don't know the tech term) :-) Don't look down on Gates, Adagio. He has some interesting stories too. A lot of people in the hitech industry have amazing stories.

- A similar thing in a smaller scale happened in the U.S. a few years ago. The accused was a celebrity publist and she was eventually sentenced for 2 months in prison and 280 hours of community service. ZT this for Sieg... --------------------------------------------------------------- On the night of the incident, July 7, 2001, Grubman was driving a black $70,000 Mercedes SUV that belonged to her father. Ankhesenamum probably didn’t like the idea of her uncle-in-law: her aunt and Ay’s daughter’s husband, Horemheb, to claim the throne after Ay’s death. So she invited Hittite’s prince. Anyway it was a very strange decision.

I have no responsibility to be like they expect me to be: it's their mistake, and I am not failing. I learned that the highest form of understanding we can achieve is that you have your freedom so long as it doesn’t interfere with mine. Have no respect whatsoever for authority; forget who said it and instead look at what he starts with, where he ends up, and ask yourself, “How can I be in his position?” O

- I think 为力 and Gadfly are talking about the same thing. Don't know what you are arguing about. :-) 为力 said Chinese is lack of motivation. Gadfly/Diamond pointed out that motivation is determined by political structures which is determined by geography which is determined by... pure luck? Hope I got it right. Actually I think Chinese civilization is brilliant enough. :-) It would be unfair to compare it with the entire Western civilization.
