The title mislead me and I thought it is one of those "much feeling about nothing" type of writing. And a glimpse of the beginning seems to have confirmed my guess. So I skipped and stopped reading. But obviously I misunderstood it and missed the later part about second spring, which is good and important. You had a point and have it written well. The comparisons with first spring and icewine are both good. This may sound con

Please forgive my ignorance. Who are the suppoased targets of his arguement? When was this article written? The current Chinese government is not holding such a view. Is any acholars in mainland China holding such a view right now? Some oversea Chinese or Western scholars holding such a view? My feeling is that most people inside China are not caring about this issue anymore. Mo

But I disagree with Maya deleting her own writing on her visit to Mr. Fang. It was a great piece of writing and reveals a whole lot of truth. What is literature for? It's for revealing the whole truth, not some trivial details but something called whole truth, the truth that is truly amazing. That piece of writing does not belittle M

I'm more interested in how all these thoughts could be coming together here rather than the topic or the starting point itself. At times I otfen feel funny how one thing could intrigue another or one thought could lead to the next. It's amazing how we live together and what a world we live in. The descriptive piece is well written. Just as Maya said, we feel we now know quite a bit about this guy. He is certainly unique or unusual, but also in o

Why don't you put in the names of the Chinese 108 characters? Is it your plan to challenge old folks like me who cannot remember the names? Please do us a favor and add in the names.

Perhaps I only understood the title from an individual perspective, not collective human beings. Are you adding some new meaning to this phrase and referring to a human/god comparison? But that seems less convincing, as you may say god has no shadow and I may believe it has, for after all god lives in our beliefs.

Instead of "polite is beautiful or polite makes one noble" as Maya suggested, I simply argue that polite makes a real debate possible. Lu Sun already said 70 years ago that "cursing and thretening" is never true fighting. One of the reasons why we Chinese can hardly get into serious discussions and debates is we fail the first test to be polite and follow the rules of a polite conversation or dialogue.

This cafe recently has been crowded and noisy, and it even smells of more gun powder than coffee. Hope we can still enjoy coffee, at least at this table. Let me first bring some cookies--reading a little poem by my American friend, Richard Hoffman. The Definite Article The people crowded the square. The crowd peopled the square. The troops circled the square. The troops and the people squared off. The name of the people is they. The name of the troop

Honestly I didn't even read it in CND when I first saw the title, because I suspected that it was another piece that is all politically oriented without artictical charm. But I was wrong. Maybe a better title can be something like: "That day in Early June", which may have more artistic appealing. Anyway, glad to see more works with the power of art using that event as a background, which deserves such attention
